6th Annual Juried International Exhibition of Contemporary Islamic Art

Islamic Art Revival Series (IARS) presents the 6th Annual Juried International Exhibition of Contemporary Islamic Art at the Irving Arts Center (IAC), in Irving Texas.

IARS is pleased to announce Dr. Linda Komaroff as the esteemed juror for this year’s exhibition. Dr. Komaroff is one of the best known Curator of Islamic Art in the USA. She is a Senior Curator at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in Los Angeles, California. Linda Komaroff has served as LACMA’s curator of Islamic art since 1995. Her exhibitions at LACMA include The Legacy of Genghis Khan: Courtly Art and Culture in Western Asia, 1256-1353 (2003); A Tale of Two Persian Carpets (2009); and Gifts of the Sultan: The Arts of Giving at the Islamic Courts (2011). The latter was the first major exhibition on Islamic art organized by an American institution to travel to the Middle East, to the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha (2012), where Dr. Komaroff was the guest curator. Among her contemporary exhibitions are: Islamic Art Now: Contemporary Art of the Middle East, Part 1 (2015) and Part 2 (2016). Combining historical and contemporary art, her next international loan exhibition for LACMA, In the Fields of Empty Days: The Intersection of Past and Present in Iranian Art, is scheduled for 2018.

 

Exhibition dates: Saturday October 7th to Sunday November 12th, 2017.
All accepted art work will be featured on IARS website for a full one year after the end of the exhibition www.islamicartrevival.com.

Eligibility: This juried art exhibition is open to all artists 18 years and older from around the world. All art submitted should be based on or inspired by Islamic art and design, Islamic literature, Islamic architecture and Islamic cultures, current social issues and presented in a positive light. Only artwork produced within the last two years or since 2015 will be accepted. Artwork shown in the previous IARS juried exhibitions is not eligible to be entered.

Media: All 2D and 3D art, including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, art glass, fiber arts, hand pulled prints, photographs, small art installations, video art and original digital prints are welcome. Giclee prints which are not original will not be considered.
