Led by instructors Adam Williamson and Richard Henry, this series of modular practical workshops will introduce participants to the profound beauty and subtle complexity of Islamic patterns. Using the traditional tools of compass and straight-edge, in addition to freehand drawing, participants will explore geometric designs and biomorphic motifs (Islimi/Arabesque) from across the Islamic world to re-create a range of stunning traditional designs. Each workshop is taught from first principles and assumes no prior knowledge or grounding. The workshops will be of interest to artists, designers, craftsmen/women, architects, or anyone with a passion for Islamic art and geometric design. All are welcome.
Workshops will be held August 27 & 28th. Each 2.5 hour workshop is a standalone module, with distinct content related either to a specific region, or a particular design skill. Participants are welcome to attend as many workshops as they would like. Participants registering for all 6 workshops will receive a discount.
