Master calligrapher and musician Bahman Panahi will be holding a calligraphy workshop at the Dallas Museum of Art, as part of the Islamic Art Presentations presented by the Islamic Art Revival Series (IARS) in partnership with the Dallas Museum of Art and the Crow Collection of Asian Art. IARS is a program of the Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation.

The calligraphy workshop will be held from 3:15-5PM at the Center for Creative Connections (C3) at the DMA.*
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Bahman Panahi was born in Iran in 1967, the youngest son of a large artistic family. From early on, Panahi came into contact with music, painting, theater, and calligraphy through the work of his brothers. From these arts, he chose music and calligraphy for himself. In his opinion, the former stands for Iranian history, its culture and its civilization, and the latter gives a spontaneous image of the Iranian creativity and its taste. He constant preoccupation is the relation between these two artistic domains.
Bahman Panahi obtained the Master Certificate from the Institute of Calligraphers of Iran and the great masters of calligraphy Amirkhany, Foradi, and Kaboli. In parallel, he learned to play the tar and the sitar and deepened his musical knowledge with great masters of Persian classical music like Houshang Zarif, Mohamed Reza Lotfi, and Ataolah Zahed Shirazi. Bahman Panahi graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tehran University and continued his studies a tthe Ecole de Beaux-arts in Valanciennes and then Sorbonne in France, toward a Ph.D. in visual arts.
Since 1990, he has been involved in teaching courses, lectures, workshops, conferences, concerts, and exhibitions across five continents. In addition he has been invited as a guest professor and distinguished artist to noted institutions such as Harvard University and Northeastern University in Boston, Science Po. in Paris, and other institutions.Bahman Panahi has lived in Paris since 2002 and remains actively engaged in his artwork globally.
